Cease-fire now! World demands an end to the fighting!

The United Nations has overwhelmingly called for a humanitarian ceasefire in war-torn Gaza. On the streets in the Gaza Strip Palestinian commandos are fighting to stop the Israeli advance as a relentless barrage Israeli missiles and bombs spread death and destruction throughout the besieged Palestinian enclave. And in Rome Pope Francis renewed his call for an “immediate” ceasefire and pleaded for an end to suffering for both Israelis and Palestinians.

Last weekend a remarkably rare event took place: the Trades Union Congress (TUC), rising like Lazarus from the dead, actually stirred itself into action and held a special congress at its London HQ for the first time in 41 years.

Justice for Palestine cease-fire now!

Gaza faces a full-scale humanitarian catastrophe as Israel mercilessly maintains indiscriminate attacks on the civilians in the beleaguered Palestinian enclave that is bitterly resisting the Israeli onslaught. But world public opinion made its voice heard at the United Nations this week when 153 member-states voted for an immediate end to the fighting. Only eight lackeys of US imperialism joined Israel and the Americans in voting against the call for peace. Some of America’s NATO allies took the principled stand and supported the demand for peace. Others such as Britain shamefully abstained – although some say this modest departure from the American script is a step forward for the Sunak government.
